I went to ‘Meow Parlour’, New York City’s first cat cafe

Even though I’m extremely allergic to cats

Lets face it NYC is a stressful atmosphere where you’re going on over drive just to survive and I spend at least 50 per cent of my time online looking at pet videos. Which is what brought me to 46 Hester Street, to try out NYC’s first cat cafe, Meow Parlour. I myself love cats and although extremely allergic I did well in here for my thirty minutes (and if not just around the corner you can get some Zyertec). I suggest you book early and in advance for 30 minutes at the rate of $5 to relax with some really adorable felines.

The cafe makes you sign a waiver, and first you have to check in and you can pick up some cat toys of your choice. If you’re in English class feel free to some how relate this experience to T.S. Elliot’s book on Classical Cats in a paper or maybe you’re boning up on the dance number for your Jazz Class and CATS the musical is your jam.

About the cats

These pussies are waiting on a new forever home so if you live in dorm rooms don’t get too attached.  Remember you’re doing some good by hanging around these little guys. These are the cats that usually don’t get adopted, the more feral cats that need human contact. They may be a little older or need more care. Take for instance the white cat pictured here, I believe his name is Milo. Miley Cyrus wanted this little darling but it didn’t work out with her schedule because the feline needed extra care at the doctor and she couldn’t bring him home right away.

The people who love them

This place is crawling with cat lovers. And trust me just like it takes a certain person to become a cat lady it takes a certain person to love that cat lady. Hell you could do a psychology paper on these people. Most people are dressed up in cat shirts, tights, charms but if you don’t have any of that you can freely buy some.

Atmosphere

I stepped in having some ideas what this trip was going to be like. For instance I thought they would definitely love to sit on my lap but these are cats and they play hard to get. I haven’t been this relaxed in months. There is something about the library-style quiet with just animals walking around during there own thing while you tried to play with them and they aren’t responding. Overall, it’s a great place a place to distress and unwind while doing some good plus people aren’t really my thing.
