BSU is holding a fundraiser for the Flint water crisis

‘Flint is another prime example of the government taking advantage of ‘high risk’ people of color’

NYU’s Black Student Union kickstarted a fundraiser earlier this week for the residents of Flint, Michigan.

Since October, the city has been making national headlines because residents’ water has been contaminated through the use of lead pipes.

Although news started breaking in October, many are angry that the issue has been going on for years with little government aid.

Arielle Andrews, the President of BSU, wants for the NYU community to donate and “help promote” the cause.

The Black Student Union is partnering with the Women of Excellence Strength, & Tenacity (WEST) and Gentlemen of Quality (GQ) to raise $5,000.

CAS senior Chi Chi Obi explained why she donated to the cause, which has already raised more than $800. She said: “Even though I’m just a broke college student, I know that I can wake up and take a shower and drink from my bathroom sink without thinking twice.

“Flint is another prime example of the government taking advantage of ‘high risk’ people of color, especially in a lower socioeconomic class.”
