Fighting Irish are the 15th best college in the nation

The Catholic Princeton

It’s that time of the year again.  As many self-centered students begin to feel like small fish upon arriving at their elite college or university, US News and World Report gives their lives meaning again.  So to any Notre Dame student out there feeling inadequate after your first exams, rest assured: your school is (tied for) the #15 best university in the country.

With this new ranking, a Forbes value-based ranking at #13, diverse and rigorous academics, and an inimitable Alumni network, Notre Dame du Lac consistently proves its worth as an institution and its strength as a university. It was former Notre Dame President Father Hesburgh’s dream to have Notre Dame be the “Catholic Princeton.” It seems we have fully realized that dream, so why stop there?

The Irish are fighters. From James Braddock to Conor McGregor to John F. Kennedy, the Irish don’t shy away from a battle. Ultimately, these rankings are determined by the success of the student body.  So if you’re one of those aforementioned self-pitying students – someone hyper-focused on feeling too challenged and someone lacking focus on the countless opportunities available to you here – perhaps you should ask not what Notre Dame can do for you, but what you can do for Notre Dame.

Save for Stanford, we push back, beat, or even humiliate football rivals in the US News rankings. USC is at #23; Texas dangles down at #56; and Michigan State, at #83, didn’t even show up to play.

It is a privilege to go this university, so have pride in yourself and in your school.

When our football team wins, we, as fans, celebrate as a unit. We should likewise band together when the university as a whole demonstrates its competitiveness and prestige.

So this year, both academically and professionally, let’s go out there and win one for the Gipper.
