We talked emergency contraception with the stars of MTV’s Girl Code

The funny girls got serious about women’s options

On Thursday, Girl Code stars Nessa Diab and Carly Aquilino stopped by Michigan’s campus to educate students about emergency contraception.

The event, which was sponsored by Michigan’s chapter of Her Campus, featured a daytime meet-up in Angel Hall, and an evening discussion with Diab and Aquilino, along with an OBGYN Dr. Diana Ramos. It was one of several trips to college campuses Diab and Aquilino have been making as part of the Perfectly Imperfect campaign.

The MTV comedians said they launched the program with Plan B One-Step last July, and have since visited many different college campuses with the goal of debunking the myths about emergency contraception.

“I think it’s so important that we have this conversation so that you know what your options are,” said Aquilino, “and so that we can educate ourselves and each other about what emergency contraception is and the options that you have if things don’t go the way you planned.”

“I think it’s important that we all understand emergency contraception in the best way possible by actually knowing the facts,” added Diab.

Whil thee goal of their visits is first and foremost to educate, Diab emphasized that the campaign has become so much more, enabling her to connect and build relationships with young women across the country.

“It’s a reminder that we’re all in this together,” she said. “When you see other young women trying to make their dreams come true, just trying to get through life and having the same concerns that we have, going through the same issues that we have, it’s really nice. It’s nice to bond with other women.”

Diab and Aquilino will hit the road again on the 27th, heading to Oregon State University. For more information about Perfectly Imperfect, and for information about emergency contraception, log on to their website here.
