I took my friends from a private, all-girls college to an MSU frat party

“Can I crowd surf?”

This past weekend, two of my friends from St. Mary’s College – an all girls school – came to visit me at MSU. While they have Notre Dame right across the street, which is filled with fun (albeit small) dorm parties, they have been totally deprived of the frat party experience. This, in my opinion, is something everyone should experience at least once. So this weekend, I made it my life’s mission to show them what the frat party scene at MSU is all about.

Here is how our frat-filled weekend went.

We started off the way all girls start off their night: group pictures, because pics or it didn’t happen. Little did they know, they were about to walk for 20-30 minutes in 40 degree weather with tank tops on. Definitely a change for people who are used to walking less than five minutes to a party.

We got to our first frat, and they were immediately a huge hit with those fun-loving frat boys.

“Hey, you’re not wearing a bright colored shirt or khakis.”

We didn’t want to overwhelm our friends right away, though, so we started them off in the kitchen – a hidden treasure. Where there’s a kitchen, there’s a bar.

At one point they decided they could be better bartenders than the boys and took over. Their specialty drink? Tequila sunrise, of course. After secretly taking some not-so-free drinks with us from the fridge (sorry boys), we made it to the dance floor.

“So they don’t have disco balls everywhere?”

They loved dancing on the platforms just as much as we all do, especially considering it was the only place we could actually dance without bumping into someone.

“Where are all of the togas?”

Surprise girlies! They don’t wear togas to all their parties. Bummer, I know.

“No smoke machines?”

Finally, after hours of dancing and kicking ass at BP, we ended our frat parade – but we couldn’t let them end the night without stopping by every Spartan’s favorite 2am establishment: Conrad’s. Also a change of pace for people who are usually supposed to be back in their dorms by around that time.

“I love this place.”

After we woke up Sunday morning, I asked my friends for their final thoughts on frats at MSU.

“Lots of boys, good music and not as much crowd surfing or jumping off roofs… but we give them a solid 9/10.”  Same, ladies. Same.
