Everything MSU’s class of 2020 can’t miss

Add these to your bucket list

Welcome to MSU, the land of eternal school pride.

Class of 2020, if you haven’t already figured it out, we here at MSU are constantly loving on our mascot, Sparty. MSU is our home, and we love everything about it.

We’ve all learned to embrace the glorious green and white, as seen by the random chanting that goes on across campus. And we’ve all learned to laugh (or scream) at CATA when we’re trying to get from Brody to East in 20 minutes. We all love this campus, and there’s an endless list of reasons why we all bleed green.

So here are the top 10 things here at MSU that’ll make the class of 2020 love it here as much as we do. Go green!

The Spartan Statue

No one can miss our fabulous Spartan statue. Everyone who has ever attended MSU has at least one picture at the statue, and the class of 2020 should be no exception. Take a picture with your AOP group, with your friends on the way to a game or when you’re passing him on the way to class – either way, taking a picture with MSU’s famous statue is a must.

Sparticipation

Sparticipation is a yearly event where most of the clubs and organizations get together to advertise themselves to the entirety of MSU. And why wouldn’t you go? The cafs close down so it’s the only food on campus, there are people dressed in all sorts of costumes running all over the field to grab your attention, and it lets you get involved with student activities. What more could you want in a school-funded event?

…And did I mention the free stuff? Free stuff, everywhere you look. Sometimes there’s even puppies. So, class of 2020, I hope you didn’t miss out the other week.

Combos/Sparty’s Coffee

Where would we be without Combos? Whether it’s for breakfast, a quick snack, or hoarding non-perishables in our dorms, combos are an all-important staple of Spartan life.

And we can’t forget that fabulous Sparty’s Coffee, complete with not-so-finely ground bits of coffee grinds just waiting to be crunched on. Sure, it tastes a little gross, but you gotta do what you gotta do for that caffeine fix.

Conrad’s

Ah yes, drunk people food. Everyone has eaten at Conrad’s at least once, usually after a booze-filled night of frat or bar crawls. For satisfying your late-night ‘drunchies,’ it certainly does the job.

Sparty

Everyone knows about Sparty, our fabulous MSU mascot. At any given time, Sparty can be seen running around somewhere on campus, bringing joy wherever he goes. Whether or not you take a selfie with Sparty or just high-five the guy, he should definitely be on the bucket list of anyone hoping to exude the Spartan spirit.

CATA

We all ride CATA. We all hate CATA, but in the winter we love CATA (sometimes). But whether you love or hate it, don’t forget to respect the bus drivers. They have kind of a tough job driving 50,000 college students around campus all day.

Also: get there early, use the CATA text service, and know the right instances to go on a walk instead. Either way, CATA is something that even the class of 2020 shouldn’t miss out on – we all gotta have those funny bus stories, like it or not.

Grand River

Grand River is the main road off campus, and for those of you who don’t know, it has everything. Urban Outfitters, Pitaya and Moosejaw are only a few of the many stores you could get lost in. And if you’re not looking to shop for clothes, there’s also record stores, tattoo parlors, MSU spirit stores and even a bookshop. Oh, and food. So much food.

Grand River truly does have everything and anything to pass your time and take a day to yourself. Whether you’re running errands, shopping for clothes or gifts for the upcoming holidays, or looking for your next free-read or music inspiration, Grand River is the place to go.

Spartan Stadium

Ah…here we are, home of the Spartans. Football is kind of a big deal here. Make sure you go to the games here because the student section is so much fun. And, if you absolutely can’t go to the games, at least go tailgating. It’s practically an Olympic sport the way Spartans do it. Either way, you at least shouldn’t miss taking a picture inside Spartan Stadium.

Munn Ice Arena

For the not-so-crazy sports fans, there’s also hockey. Though not as popular as football, the games are just as fun to attend. Plus, even if you don’t care for hockey, there’s always ice skating, and, being in Michigan, how can you pass that up? That’s right, you can’t.

MSU Dairy Store

Last, but certainly not least, you have to go to MSU Dairy Store. Not only do they have the best ice cream around, they also have fabulous milk shakes, malts, and grilled cheese sandwiches. During the warmer months of school, the line is usually out the door, but have no fear: there are two stores. So make sure not to pass up a chance for some of that fatty, sugary goodness to relieve the stress of your first college months.
