Things you’ll only know if you grew up in Severna Park, MD

Where are all my parkies at?

As a Severna Park resident, there are quite a few things I have learned about the community while growing up here.

These are a few things you will only understand if you’re a “parkie” from Maryland.

Your go-to hangout destination is Donut Shack

This isn’t just your place to be if you love and crave donuts. Of course, this is a plus, but this haven is open 24/7. When the hours are so flexible, it’s easy to figure out a place to go and grab something to eat when it is 2 AM.

When you and your friend are struggling to figure out what to do on your night together, Donut Shack is always the answer and you only need to bring $1 for a late night treat. This restaurant is truly one of the most important beacons of Severna Park with its hours, homemade food, drinks, low prices and more.

You have a panic attack when a B shows up on your report card

In Severna Park, it is very well known how all of the students focus on their schoolwork. A report card with anything less than straight As is seen as a failure, even if it is not. We always work hard in school and study dates are one of the primary leisure activities we suggest during the school year. We all try everything that we can in order to get that perfect report card that will immediately bring a smile to your face.

You are always searching for a raft-up during the summer season in Severna Park

Although Severna Park is teeming with intelligent young students, these young adults know how to have fun. Summer is, of course, many people’s favorite season of the year because of the warmth and abundance of activities you can partake in. During raft-ups, you’ll find bikini clad girls, boats and of course, alcohol. If you attend one of these raft-ups, you will be riding around on a friend’s boat while you lean back, relax and take a few gulps of your Miller Light.

A majority of your meals come from Chick-Fil-A or Chipotle

We parkies are pretty fortunate to have some of the best restaurants we desire in our town. These, of course, include Chick-Fil-A and Chipotle. Whenever I go to either of these fine dining establishments, I am guaranteed to see at least one other student that I know from our town. Chick-Fil-A is not only great for a lunch or dinner option, but it is also a place to go after school lets out senior year.  After sitting through three hours of tedious classes, you can drive to Chick-Fil-A and get one of their breakfast specials. Now that 12:00pm has arrived, you’re wondering what you should have for lunch. Most often, Chipotle is one of the first places to pop inside your head. Not only is this restaurant affordable, but the food is also quite delicious. Both your stomach and your wallet will be feeling good after a Chipotle run.

If you are from Severna Park, I’m sure you agree that at some, if not all of this list is applicable to your life .
