All the reasons JMU is the best college in the world

We all know it’s the best

We’ve all heard that JMU has the best food, the best views, and the nicest people, but what’s so great about it? Why do we love this place so much? Because it is the best.

We really do have some of the best dining options

JMU

Not only are the dining halls amazing and delicious (yes there are two), but we have a ridiculous amount of options for your dining pleasures. We have several Starbucks locations (and a truck), two Dunkin Donuts, four food-court-style eateries (Top Dog, P.C. Dukes, Festival, Bistro in SSC), two nicer places (Mrs. Greens and Madison Grill), Auntie Anne’s, Subway, Chick-Fil-A, and several other stand-alone places. Beyond this amazing selection, JMU also offers amazing food at every single dining location. My favorite is the Bistro in SSC, but it’s followed closely behind Mongolian Grill in Top Dog. You really can’t go wrong with any food at JMU, though.

Our views are incomparable

JMU really has the most beautiful campus in the world. Upcoming freshmen, prepare your Instagram accounts for JMU view spamming; we all do it. The campus is far too pretty to not.

Our professors are amazing

Not only are JMU’s professors incredibly qualified and brilliant, they also genuinely care for their students. They’re concerned for your health and happiness, for your academic success, and they really strive to help you in every way they can.

We have the nicest police officer in the world

Officer Conley is the nicest guy in the world. He truly loves his job and cares for the students of JMU. Everyone here knows who Conley is. He’s had to make multiple Facebook pages just to accommodate all his friends. If you see him directing traffic or walking around campus, shout hello to him. Chances are he’ll strike up an awesome conversation with you and then he’ll remember you forever. We really are lucky to have this guy as one of our police officers.

We have a club for everything

There are academic clubs, music clubs, sports clubs, even knitting clubs at JMU. There’s always an opportunity find a group in which you feel at home. The varieties in clubs assures that each student will find at least one place, if not many, in which they fit in and find their second family.

We hold doors for people

The best JMU tradition there is is that we hold doors open for people. This shows compassion for our fellow Dukes (students, faculty, or guests) as well as an appreciation for the university and its values. We hold doors for people because it is nice, respectful, and creates a more loving atmosphere on campus. That being said, it also causes you to awkwardly be holding the door for forever, but give and take.

We really love our school

One trait that is consistent amongst most, if not all, Dukes is the love we have for JMU. This is more than a school, it’s a community. A big part of what makes this university the best is the people that attend it. We choose to uphold the values and traditions that have been passed down by the generations of Dukes before us like holding doors, yelling DUUUUUKES when you hear J-M-U, always giving people directions when they ask, and being kind and helpful people. We make JMU the amazing place it is.

The absolute best part about my JMU experience, now that it’s come to a close, has been being editor of The Tab JMU. I’ve met some of my best friends through this publication, have gained so much knowledge and experience for my future career, and have forced myself to go beyond what I previously thought of as my limitations. It forced me to break out of my shell and really become a part of the JMU community. This is what JMU strives to do in all its clubs and courses. They really do want us to succeed and want to prepare us for the future. I think we can all agree JMU is the best college out there.
