Why your mom is basically your long distance boyfriend

Who needs a bæ when you’ve got mom

College is your home away from home, but having your mom is really all you need in this life of sin (just kidding, Mom, I’m behaving myself).

She sends you good morning and good night texts

Your mom will always be sure to say good night, even if its 10pm and you wont be going to bed for another three hours. Then she will text you bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning (usually accompanied with an emoji because she loves emojis as much as you do).

Long phone calls

The key to a long distance relationship is communication (or any relationship for that matter). You could be on the phone for two hours and only cover a few details of your life, and before you know it you’re on the phone all night. Where did the time go??

She’s always there when you need her

There is never a time when she will not drop everything she is doing to talk you through something or help you with any situation. Sure she may be far, but that wont stop her from doing everything she possibly can from where she is. Whether it’s a bad test grade or simply needing encouragement to get through the day, she is and always will be there, ready with the exact words you need to hear.

Little surprises

It’s super cute whenever couples send each other random gifts unexpectedly, it’s that small reminder that someone is thinking of you. Moms are the same way- I mean care packages are basically the single greatest thing a college student can receive. She loves to surprise you with little things, especially if it’s been a rough week.

She’s your best friend

She will always give the best advice, comfort, and laughs because she knows you better than anyone in the world. You pretty much have each other down to a science, to the point when you know everything from their favorite Starbucks drink to what they had for dinner the night before.

Watching shows together

The distance between you and your mom will not stop you from watching your favorite show together when it comes on. Because it’s just not the same without them!

She can tell when you’re upset even when you’re miles away

A change in the way you normally text or your tone of voice in a phone call is all she needs to suspect that something’s up. It’s sort of a sixth sense that almost never goes unnoticed. If she knows something’s wrong, she’ll be right there to cheer you up when you need it most.

 Surprise visits

Getting a surprise visit from your mom is the best, even if just for a few hours. One visit can be all it takes to be able to reconnect and just enjoy having one another for the time being.

You Skype and Facetime often

Phone calls and texting are great, but it’s also important to see a face for a change. Facetiming often makes you feel closer, even when the distance remains. Being able to see your loved one makes the time apart just a little bit easier, and provides comfort that sustains. Plus, she can show you your pets because you miss them too!

Goodbyes are hard

Saying goodbye after a break that was too short or a visit you wish would last longer is always difficult. One last big hug and she’s off, but you know she’s not really gone because you’ll be texting her later that night with updates on your ever-changing life.

When you do finally see each other, nothing has changed

It’s amazing how easily you can pick right back up where things left off. Whether it’s been days, weeks, or months no amount of time can hinder the relationship. When it comes down to it, your mom will forever and always be someone to lean on when times are tough, and laugh with when you want to be stupid and have fun. Not only is she like having a long distance boyfriend, she’s a thousand times better because she is the solid foundation that will never fail.
