Ragers and Misbehavers: 117 Hudson is in danger and only you can save it

They’ve racked up $1800 in fines from hosting massive parties

It’s a Saturday night and you’re out with your friends, attempting to crawl down South Aurora as fast as the ice on the sidewalk will let you. You’re way too cold, a little bit too tipsy from the pregame for your own liking, and need a warm place to continue your escapades.

“What’s the move for tonight?” someone asks, but you all know exactly where you’ll be headed that evening. 117 Hudson Street. Because where else?

117 Hudson has long been the “party house”, the “place to be” at IC. It’s probably been that way since before Ithaca College was even around, and probably since before all of us were even alive. 117 was built to host ragers, darties and everything else inbetween.

It’s huge, it’s red, and it has a fantastically long drop from it’s back porch to the ground – just ask my friend who jumped off of it last summer and broke her elbow. There are so many stories out there of our times spent at 117, most of which are more myth than first hand anecdote, but those stories are in danger of being cut way too short in our college careers. All we need is your help to keep them going.

The Ithaca Police have not been sympathetic to our boys in the big red house and their way of life. As of today, 117 Hudson has a total of 8 tickets that need to be paid to the police department, most of which are expensive noise complaints that most college kids would not be able to afford on their own.

All together, the tickets equal about $1,800. A steep price to pay when you think about all this house has done for us throughout the years. Junior Sidney Vallery and resident of 117 urges his peers to help them out in every way they can: “We want to help the party life at Ithaca, but we need help funding it.”

That’s where you guys come in.

Due to the overwhelming number of tickets and the amount of money they cost, 117 Hudson has created a GoFundMe page so they can continue to get after it and throw you the best parties you’ve ever seen on South Hill. They’ve set their goal low at $500, but they believe their classmates will pull through, give whatever pennies they have and save 117.  It’s a matter of life or death…of your social life.

So far, the GoFundMe page has raised only a measly $154 in one day, but 117 is hoping to receive more generous donations to keep their legacy alive. Other houses on South Hill have contributed to the fund, such as the boys of Hillview, 205 Prospect and 201 Pleasant. This is a pivotal moment. No one wants to live to see the end of 117 Hudson, so the community is coming together to stop the madness.

Junior and proud supporter of 117 Hudson Street Daniel Ball is also calling for action to support the house:

“117 is a place of pure enjoyment and good hearted fun. Stigmas that surround some college living situations, hazing, disrespecting females, and so on are just not present here. Everybody in this establishment is about having good, genuine dun. 117 isn’t just a house, it’s a culture. Gang gang.”

If you have an ounce of sympathy in your body and love 117 as much as the rest of your Ithaca College community does, donate some bills to their page to help the cause and get them out of their substantial debt. The fate of your weekends rests in your hands and in your credit cards. Let’s do it for the boys. #Save117
