College students know better than anyone else that money is often tight, so much in fact that it’s not uncommon to skip a meal or two because it.

Let’s face it, as soon we leave the university dorm life to live on our own in off campus housing, eating is left up to our own cooking skills. When students get sick of eating ramen noodles and microwave mac and cheese, we turn to Iowa City’s many restaurants and fast food joints. Even dining hall food gets tiring, and meal plans are ditched for Order Up and eating out. But when our budget’s are restricted to only a few dollars for spending money, getting in a meal can be tough.

For the poor in wallet and high in hunger, here are the best – and let’s be honest, cheapest – places on campus at the University of Iowa to grab some grub.

Brother’s Bar and Grill

While Brother’s is more known for its drink specials – you know you’ve got a few Mug Club mugs in your cabinet – don’t miss out on its amazing wing special every Wednesday. Starting at 8pm customers are able to get as many wings, boneless or traditional, as their hungry hearts desire, for just 25 cents each. Wing sauces include Hawaiian, spicy garlic and traditional buffalo. Don’t miss out on some bomb wings this upcoming Wednesday!

Formosa

Are you a sushi addict? Iowa City’s most loved sushi restaurant is the place to be on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. On these days, Formosa offers half price select sushi rolls, appetizers and martinis. Get some friends together for dinner this week and order a bunch of tasty sushi rolls to share!

Short’s Burgers and Shine

Tuesday’s are for Airliner’s famous half price pizza deal. Get any pizza for half the regular price. That’s ridiculous.

On Wednesday’s, treat yourself to a huge tenderloin sandwich for only $6.99. These tendies are so big, you’ll need to take half home, guaranteed.

Grab any one of Airliner’s tasty burgers – all named after airplane models, how fitting – and yummy French fries for just $5.99 every Thursday.

On Friday’s Airliner serves up huge pasta bowls for only $6.99. Take your pick from the Cajun chicken and chicken alfredo pastas, and the fan favorite, spicy buffalo mac and cheese. Yum!

Finally, Sunday’s bring the mother of all food specials: Airliner’s famous pizza in giant slices – for just $1. No joke, a single dollar. This deal is the best you can find in all of Iowa City. So dig up some spare pocket change and couch coins and head over to The Airliner for tasty pizza slices.
