Champaign celebrates the Cubs win as if they were in Wrigley Field

We partied like it was 1908

We may not have been able to make it to Chicago, but that didn’t stop the residents of Champaign from celebrating like they won game 7 themselves. Bars were filled to capacity to watch the Cubbies make history on Wednesday night. The 108 year streak has finally ended and the curse of the billy goat will no longer sit in the back of fans minds. As Harry Caray said, “Now our lives are complete, the Cubs are #1.”

Champagne was popped, beer was sprayed, and tears were shed while celebrating the historic win. Tests and responsibilities were forgotten, the only thing that mattered was raising the W.

Our boys finally went all the way and even an Illini alert about a shooter on Green St. couldn’t stop them from celebrating just as hard as Ross probably did last night.

This World Series was a once in a lifetime event that people won’t soon forget, and the students of UIUC gave it the celebration the Cubs rightfully deserved.

Kam’s filled up quickly with nervous fans before game time

But the nerves turned to excited chants, especially with one out left

Fans prepped the champagne at Joe’s Brewery

No one could contain their excitement after the final out

Cly’s was packed with people belting out Go Cubs Go

Everyone rushed Green St. as if it was the center of Wrigley

The mob chanted and sang as the reality of the win finally sunk in

People from all over watched the Cubs clinch the World Series that was 108 years in the making. When people ask “where were you when the Cubs won the World Series”, hopefully you’re lucky enough to say Champaign, Illinois.
