Mandatory sexual assault prevention training for all next term

Is this enough?

All students will have to complete a two part sexual assault prevention training course come Fall Semester.

In an email to Illinois students, Executive Director of University Ethics and Compliance, Donna S. McNeely, explained an online course will hope to diminish the amount of sexual assaults on campus monthly.

The program, titled Haven Plus, will help to raise awareness, educate, and “apply resources and tools positively.”

Students will have to complete the program in two parts, one before the first day of school, and the other in the form of a questionnaire, which will be sent out mid semester.

The email from the College official says:

“Having spent time in a university environment, you are likely aware of or have even witnessed behaviors that made you uncomfortable or gave you reason to be concerned for the safety or emotional state of yourself or another individual. Though you likely have received training on how to protect yourself against sexual assault or violence, the University of Illinois has partnered with EverFi, whose expertise related to Title IX topics involves empowering you, as a student, to recognize the social and environmental cues of sexual violence and apply tools and resources to positively impact your environment and protect those around you. EverFi has developed a comprehensive prevention program opportunity for you to complete, entitled Haven Plus.

“Haven Plus is a mandatory training program that must be completed online. The course is a two-part series, the first of which, should be completed between now and August 22, 2016. The second portion of the educational series is a condensed questionnaire format, which you will be invited to complete closer to the middle of the semester, once you’ve had time to apply the information to your daily routine…

“Students who experience a triggering event from this email communication or while completing the material, please contact your Title IX Coordinator”

The email also states that those who are triggered by the subject, should speak with the Title IX Coordinator.

The course as a whole will be online and can be completed in segments.
