Fox becomes second Final Club to go coed

An email to grads said Harvard ‘forced their hand’

Over the weekend, The Fox became the second of Harvard’s eight male final clubs to go co-ed amid claims Harvard “forced their hand”.

It joins The Spee who punched female undergrads for the first time this fall.

An email signed by the President and Members of The Fox explained a “group” of women joined their membership as they plan to transition to “a fully co-ed club over the next year”.

The message, published in The Crimson, said: “Earlier this year, after much discussion and deliberation, the undergraduate members of the Fox Club decided to open our membership to women.

“A group of junior and senior women have accepted an offer of membership and, in their capacity as members, will be advising our transition to a fully co-ed club over the next year.”

An earlier message sent to Fox graduates added: “Harvard University has applied tremendous pressure on all of the clubs to go coed”, which listed “the undergraduates’ sincere desire to admit women” along with Harvard “forcing their hand” as reasons for the change.
