No, Beta Theta Pi are not facing probation
Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life dispels the rumors
There’s a rumor flying around campus and Yik Yak that the chapter Beta Theta Pi fraternity is facing social probation and even possible chapter suspension from campus because of apparent hazing.
However, Marlon Gibson, Director of Sorority and Fraternity Life, said: “There is no truth to the rumors.
“I really wish people would stop using Yik Yak as their bible.”
A current sophomore who knows a Beta brother had previously said: “The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life has been investigating the chapter of Beta fraternity because they are believed to be hazing the members of their newest pledge class.”
However, a Beta brother subsequently countered this, saying the hazing rumors were all a joke created on Yik Yak by the frat to make themselves look “badass.”
Spring rush for sororities and fraternities started recently. Now many are going through pledge week, when a lot of hazing might be possible, particularly in fraternities. Rumors of hazing are more likely this time of year, and Beta is no exception.
Even though these rumors of hazing are apparently false, it is always good to keep an eye out and be aware of possible hazing on campus, as everyone deserves a safe, fun pledge week.
