Signs that you have the Duke Blues
Are we back in Durham yet?
High school was too boring and our break was too short for us to even consider missing school. So it’s a new and weird feeling to want your break to end so you can go back to college.
But our break was too long and Duke is too cool to not catch a case of the Duke blues around the beginning of January.
Symptoms of the Duke Blues
- Did you recently hear Cascada’s Everytime We Touch and for some weird reason pictured yourself painted blue from head to toe and jumping up and down on crowded, sweaty bleachers?
- Or maybe Jordan Belfort or Hotline Bling came on the radio while you were driving and suddenly you pictured yourself in a completely different crowd, not as blue yet perhaps equally as sweaty? Maybe there was a mechanical bull somewhere in the background?
- You’ve searched everywhere but no sweet potato fries taste right?
- Did you walk into the kitchen in the mornings expecting to hear “hi baby” or as your mom fried an omelet did you absentmindedly say “No cheese, Wallace.”?
- Did you check Transloc before leaving your house? You know, while holding your car keys and staring at your ride parked in the driveway?
Don’t be afraid to admit that you answered yes to some of these. Maybe just be hesitant to admit that you walked into your shower with flip flops on or into your laundry room ready to swipe your Duke ID.
It’s also OK to admit that even though you’ve missed Duke, you’re also nervous about the upcoming semester! Why did you sign up for five classes? How are you going to fit 12 people in a tent for almost two months?
Where do you go on the first day if you’re on the waitlist for almost all your classes? (cough: me) What if sororities hate you, SLGs despise you, and you end up homeless next year living in a sleeping bag in one of the pews in the Chapel?
But despite the amount of things we have to stress over, we have twice the amount to look forward to!
