There is an outbreak of pinkeye in Dartmouth Athletics and it’s really horrid

Know the signs and symptoms… and wash your hands

Are your eyes itchy? It’s warm out, the landscapers are out mowing the green, flowers are blooming… it’s probably just your allergies. Go ahead, scratch away…

DON’T DO IT! SAVE YOURSELF!

A dreadful case of conjunctivitis, more commonly known as “pinkeye” is brewing on campus. It has affected a handful of athletes, which is not uncommon since we all share the same equipment for weight training.

Yes, I’m one of the lucky ones. About to reach my 24 hour mark on meds… Soon to be let out of solitary confinement and back into the world!

Here are the quick facts you need to know in order to avoid contracting a case of pinkeye:

• Wash your hands! All the time!
• Don’t share towels, makeup, or anything that touches your face
• Wipe down weights and equipment at the gym
• Avoid scratching your eyes, at least until you’ve thoroughly washed your hands

If you think you have pinkeye, here are the common symptoms:

• Swelling of the eye
• Redness and itchiness
• Yellow, green, or bloody discharge
• Blurring or loss of vision
• Mistaking yourself in the mirror for Fetty Wap…

If you have these symptoms, definitely see a doctor! They can prescribe you with eye drops or ointment that will clear up your pinkeye in less than a week. I’d recommend washing your pillow case and throwing away your makeup too, because the only thing worse than having one pinkeye is having two pink eyes…Don’t make the mistake of letting your pinkeye germs seep into your good eye…
