2020 Vision: We asked incoming freshmen what they think of Dartmouth Part 2

‘I couldn’t wait to become a member of the Dartmouth community’

This is round two in a five part series. For as long as I’ve been here, the freshman class has been labeled as the “worst class ever.” But, these 2020s are actually pretty cool. It’s refreshing to see their perspectives of our campus before arriving. Lets be honest, we are all a little jealous of how much time they have coming up at Dartmouth.

How did you react to being admitted to Dartmouth?

I was ecstatic when I heard I was admitted. I couldn’t wait to become a member of the Dartmouth community, and knowing that the hard work I had put in to get to that point had paid off was immensely satisfying. It sounds corny, but the feeling I got that day was truly a once in a lifetime sensation.

What are you looking forward to most about your freshman fall?

I am certainly excited to get to know a whole new group of classmates. In many ways, it will be hard to not see my high school friends every day, but I am looking forward to meeting everyone on campus next fall. From Trips to Homecoming, I think that there are many opportunities in place for students to get to know each other, especially early on, at Dartmouth.

What are you looking forward to least?

The cold. Saying that is somewhat ironic given that I am from Upstate New York and love to ski, but I can’t say I get too excited when it’s in the single digits outside.

Do you know what you would like to study?

Undecided. Maybe math, maybe history, maybe economics, but nothing clear at this point.

How did you decide to apply to Dartmouth early decision?

Truthfully, a part of it had to do with the fact that applying early, statistically, gave me a better chance of getting in. I am very indecisive by nature, and it was hard for me to commit to that one school, which in this case was Dartmouth. I think I always knew deep down that Dartmouth was my top choice, and I became aware of that as the idea of applying early became a reality. There was no point in waiting for the regular round if I already knew which school was my favorite.

How did you react to being admitted to Dartmouth?

I was beyond ecstatic because as an athlete, I knew that Dartmouth was the perfect fit for me academically, athletically, and socially.

What are you looking forward to most about your freshman fall?

Meeting new people! I am also looking forward to running around the bonfire on homecoming.

What are you looking forward to least?

The cold weather.

Do you know what you would like to study?

Maybe Psychology.

How did you decide to apply to Dartmouth early decision?

I knew I wanted a school with great academics as well as a strong swim program because I am a swimmer, and Dartmouth offers both of these things. I also felt immediately welcomed by both the swim team as well as other community members when I stepped on campus during my Official Visit. I knew right away that I would be able to fit in.

Can you talk about your favorite activities, sports, and extracurriculars in high school?

I am a swimmer and will be swimming for Dartmouth next year so that occupies most of my time.
