Dining at Dartmouth: Unveiling The Hop’s Secret Menu

Expand your horizons with this edition of Dining at Dartmouth

Whether you’re a Hop regular, or still haven’t figured out the monolithic menu sign hanging above the grill, you may be aware there are some Hop favorites only the savviest of eaters know about. For those looking to add a little touch of foodie elitism to their evening meal, the secret menu at The Hop is a time honored tradition. Luckily, the well-liked grill master, Hop Mike, revealed his favorite secret items for the campus to enjoy.

So, the next time you’re in line at the Hop, stray from the easy Dinner Special and one-up your fellow diners by trying one of the following hidden menu selections.

“Bob Marley”

Easily the most well-known secret menu item, the Bob Marley is a wrap filled with steak, egg, cheese, and a hash brown (ha). Not only does it have an ingredient combination no one could possibly complain about, it’s also a great Dartmouth trivia answer to pullout on the fly.
“Italian Bomb”
This is a meat-lovers dream come true put into a sandwich. It starts as a Philly Cheese Steak, but then adds capicola, salami, onions, peppers, and provolone cheese. Yum.

“B/Feld”

This wrap is named after Feldman, a student and Hop-regular. The B/Feld features some wrap-inception with its chicken wrap on a tomato wrap and finishes with lettuce, tomato, and cheese.

“Omelets”

Alright. So maybe not the most creative option. But instead of asking for a couple eggs, bring some excitement to your life by adding a few canned vegetables and cheese to your eggs. While Hop omelets are definitely not up to par with Collis omelets, it’s a way to mix up the repetitiveness of DDS food. Ask for an omelet with the works and cheese for the complete experience.

“The Hulk and Red Hulk”
These final two secret menu items have actually been added to the Hop’s regular menu. However, we thought the Hulks (which were original members of the secret menu) should be included despite being revealed permanently. White they feature an extremely simple recipe, they hold a lot of history and we just couldn’t ignore that. When you order “The Hulk,” you’re getting scrambled eggs with cheese in a wheat wrap. To get “The Hulk’s” slightly healthier sibling, “Red Hulk,” all you do is add tomato.
The Hop is the most versatile dining hall at Dartmouth. Make sure to take advantage of the secret menu and the various options available to customize your order.
Happy eating!
