2016-2017 USG elections: A Hunter United

‘A Hunter United is a strong Hunter!’

12933105_1124430594274601_9145387788465441926_nNext week, April 11-15, elections will be held for the Hunter Undergraduate Student Government 2016-17 school year. A Hunter United is running a strong campaign that returns experienced USG members, in addition to many fresh faces.

The platform for A Hunter United is three-fold: access, build, and continued success.
Access refers to the quality of infrastructure around Hunter, events and programs offered by Hunter, and the USG website (you know, updating that lovely outdated look). Build refers to improving aspects of student life including: addressing clubs’ complaints and ensuring USG representation, the [never, ever faulty] printing at the Student Resource Center, and a Student Government Ambassador Program that would allow more students to be involved with USG and the larger Hunter community. And finally, the continued success piece of the platform includes the existing efforts of fighting sexual assault and fighting the tuition increases.

The vision for A Hunter United is built on creating a community that is conducive for personal growth and success in academia. One of the biggest initiatives A Hunter United has undertaken is sexual assault on campus. The #StudentsStandUp campaign has taken shape in flyers, information on the USG website, and plans to bring in guest speakers on the subject of sexual assault.

A Hunter United has also been a vocal part of the recent CUNY tuition hikes and budget cuts that have been proposed. Their most recent efforts include a protest at City Hall, “March in March” which aimed to voice concerns for the budget cuts proposed by Governor Cuomo and proposed tuition freeze for CUNY students, and a die-in at Governor Cuomo’s city office over teacher contracts and CUNY funding.

The slate is comprised of a group of individuals who are involved in Hunter’s community in more ways than one, including scholarships, athletes, and clubs. They unite under a common goal – to make Hunter a strong community for all students.
