What was your weirdest experience commuting?

‘A man sat down next to me and described his entire house to me in full detail’

Yesterday, we reported on the cranky New Yorkers ranking subway trains on Yelp – the Q tops the list with an impressive 3.5 out of five.

Because Hunter students are New Yorkers through and through, we asked them to share their strange routes, commutes and experiences.

Weird things happen every hour in The Big Apple. Who knows, maybe you’ll make it to your Psychology class on time, but let’s not kid ourselves.

Burbuqe Gashi, 20, Nursing

“I have to take the Staten Island 79 bus and transfer to to the R at Barclays station. Then I transfer to the 4 or 5 to Hunter.

“Once a passenger started shouting that he’d do hard drugs and was screaming to this guy’s face who didn’t do anything.”

Mariv Cabral, 22, Psychology Major

“I was once finishing a Starbucks coffee on a bus when a homeless man asked for it. I told him it was almost finished but he wanted it anyway. So I gave it to him and the homeless man gave me a quarter for it.”

Sean O’Hara, 19, Nursing

“I was walking near Hunter when these two guys were yelling really loudly at each other and one of the guys and his girlfriend were coming from the gym and then the guy coming from the gym swung a punch and the girl starts screaming right away.

“The guy that was punched had his hat fall off and put the other guy against a car, with someone inside it, just punching him against that car.”

Tina Brodnikova, 19, Chemistry

“I was riding back the R train really late one night and there was a passenger with an eyepatch on. A drunk group on the train ended up calling him a pirate and they got into this physical altercation but I didn’t know what to do, I was kinda taken aback thinking if I should try to break it up.

“I didn’t want to be that person who doesn’t say or do anything but it was kinda scary. His eyepatch ended up getting ripped off and blood was involved.”

Meethila Rahman, 19, Psychology Major

“A drunk guy on the train in his 50s was asking for money around the train. He ended up sitting next to me and pulled his pants down and I and another passenger ran to the next car for the cops.”

Jenifer Guzman, 18, Undecided

“I got out at 9:30 PM because I have late classes and on almost empty subway cars there’s almost always someone staring and following my movements. I have to take the 6 train to transfer to an N or Q train to Brooklyn and then walk home near a giant cemetery so it feels scary sometimes.”

Hassan Ayub, 20, Psychology

“I was sitting on the train when a guy sits next to me listening to music and shouting the lyrics really loudly. He was annoying but then he ended up offering a seat to a lady with lots of luggage. He kept shouting the lyrics after that.”

Jakub Lewinski, 25, Political Science

“A man sat down next to me on the train and just started describing his entire house to me in full detail. I didn’t even know him.”

Samuel Vaynblat, 18, Undecided

“I have to take the B100 bus to Kings Highway and transfer to the B or Q. I live in Mill Basin deep in Brooklyn.”

Zod, 20, Media Studies

“I live in Sunnyside which isn’t very far but I sometimes just walk to school. If there are train delays or if there’s snowing conditions I just walk to school which is actually great.”

Dajana Reei, 18, Biology

“I live in Sheepshead Bay so it takes me an hour and a half just one way to commute to school.”
