The most stereotypical fashion trends at CU Boulder

Our younger selves are pumped for the return of chokers

With over 25,000 students at CU Boulder, you’d think you could walk to class without running into that boy you said looked like Channing Tatum at Chi Psi last weekend. Wait, was that him walking through the UMC? Or does every boy wear their fraternity gear with khakis and boat shoes to class?

Though the campus population is large, there are many outfits at CU that you will see at least five times a day, depending on the season. Whether it is snowing with a little bit of sun, or the occasional rainy day, Boulder’s campus seems to have the same views on style trends.

Let’s start off with Fall/ Winter:

Detailed jean shorts

Though the weather may seem like it’s time to put on some jeans, it seems like every night the temperature drops, there are still hoards of girls running through the Hill wearing jean shorts. These shorts may be accessorized with any addition from bleach, to a small touch of neon or some gems on the pocket. These are the types of shorts that will have you looking for your Buff one cards in the morning even though you swore you put it in your back left pocket.

Faux fur coat

This trend is a recent look seen around campus, worn at any time of the day. Although students may not be wearing pants, each one will have an oversized fake fur coat from Urban Outfitters. These coats fake fur exterior make for the perfect addition to any winter darty outfit.

Lace-up shirts

Let’s not forget the crisscross cotton shirts. These are great for any event from a Red Rocks concert, to a themed register. Tucked into a skirt, high waisted shorts or even pants, these tops are always flattering, and even come in a short sleeved version if you fear sweating on the dance floor.

Frat wear

Okay, the sweating will happen whether the shirt is short-sleeved or not. While outside cooling down from dancing off your Cosmo’s slice from last night, you will probably see groups of boys in the same outfit that is seen during the daytime: the casual frat look of an open button down with a white t- shirt or last year’s formal shirt and khakis accompanied by a variety of shoes depending on the weather. This look is the most typical look of all, yet almost every boy can pull it off.

And now, for some accessories:

Ozzy sunglasses

This trend can be seen among the male and female population on campus and a great way to add to the “just woke up but I actually care” look. These rounded shades are an easy way to avoid people on campus while also adding a bit of style to your typical 9am outfit.

Chokers

On top of any well assembled outfit is a touch of jewelry. Walking no more than 30 seconds on campus at any given time, you’re guaranteed to see some chokers. Because who doesn’t like a necklace from over ten years ago, right? Though these necklaces squeeze every form of neck fat, the style they add to any outfit, during any season, makes them a must have.

All jokes aside, the style trends on campus is what makes Boulder, Boulder. While students flock to the Buff Pool and Farrand Field to get their tan on, there is no shortage of style trends. From the ripped high waisted jean shorts and cropped tank look, to the casual overall and converse set up, look no further than CU Boulder for the trendiest campus.
