We asked Cornell whether you get free tuition if you get hit by a bus

Debunking the myth once and for all

Nobody likes paying tuition. We understand it’s necessary for universities to keep functioning, but it’s just so damn expensive. So naturally, we look for ways to avoid paying tuition while still being able to attend college. At Cornell, a rumor has been spreading around that if one were to be hit by a bus, they would receive free tuition.

Let that sink in for a second. To get out of paying tuition, you have to jump in front of a bus. I’m not sure what kind of person would willingly get obliterated by a TCAT in the middle of campus, but if you were planning on doing that, I have some sad news. I contacted Cornell’s spokesperson to ask about this rumor, and here’s what he had to say:

Short, sweet, and to the point. So sorry to all of you that thought you had found a way to attend Cornell for free, but getting hit by a bus does not excuse you from your Bursar bill that we all love seeing in our inbox every month. Thankfully, this revelation should stop anyone from trying to get hit by a TCAT, and I think we can all agree that’s a positive thing.
