Columbia’s reputation is pretty dope, say other smart people

We’re number nine in the world

Recently, a magazine published by the Times of London called Times Higher Education, ran an article ranking the world’s top universities in terms of prestige.

And all I have to say is…USA! USA! USA! Excuse me for my slightly nationalistic outburst, but I couldn’t help myself seeing that eight out of the top 10 universities on the list are American.

Columbia just so happened to make this list of top ten Universities coming in at #9 this year, up one spot from the previous year.

The Times Higher Education is the British equivalent of what US News and World Reports is here in the United States.

The data for the rankings was compiled by using an invitation-only academic opinion survey that according to Times Higher Education “targets only experienced, published scholars, who offer their views on excellence in research and teaching within their disciplines and at institutions with which they are familiar”.

It’s also interesting to note that even with the dismal ranking of the US Public Education system compared to the rest of the world, that hasn’t affected the world’s perception of our most prestigious places of higher education.
