Applications to Columbia have massively declined in the past year

Nearly 3,000 less people applied for the 2015/2016 year

For the last four years college enrollments have been declining in the United States. This past fall semester, enrollments, overall, for U.S. Colleges and Universities were down two percent from the same time the previous semester.

Even though at times it may seem like it, Columbia does not exist in a bubble has not been able to be immune from these decreased application rates.

Recently, Columbia University was ranked #11 in decreased applications by Startclass.com.

For the 2015-16 school year, applications to Columbia declined by 8.5 per cent or approximately 2,959 applications.

Other schools on the same list were the University of Connecticut, The United States Naval Academy, The United States Air Force Academy, and Boston College rounding out the list at #1 overall in decreased applications.

This trend is expected to continue as the rate of persons 18-24 in the United States is expected to stay flat for the next ten years.
