There’ll be a screening of ‘He Named Me Malala’ at Columbia next month

It’s in Lerner Hall

On Tuesday March 1, there will be a screening of what should be an extremely powerful film named “He Named Me Malala” in Lerner Hall.

For those of you who have never heard of Malala (shame on you by the way), she is the youngest Nobel Peace Laureate in history.

As a young girl, writing a diary about living under Taliban rule in North-West Pakistan under a psydonym and speaking out about the ban on girl’s education, she became the victim of unspeakable violence perpetrated by the Taliban when a gunman boarded her school bus and shot her in the head.

However, she did not succumb to her injuries and after surgeries in Pakistan and rehab in the UK she has become a beacon of hope and peace, continuing to speak out against the brutality of the Taliban.

The movie documents the events the events that lead up to her heinous attack and includes the speech the gave at the United Nations.

The event is being hosted by Teachers College Student Senate, The Society for International Education of Teachers College, The Human Rights Working Group of SIPA, and the Organization of Pakistani Students of Columbia University.

The film will be followed by a panel discussion. You can check out the Facebook event here and get tickets for the event here.
