‘We didn’t elect a dictator, and we certainly didn’t elect a crazy, unstable one’

Everything you missed at Congressman Mike Doyle’s speech last night

Carnegie Mellon College Democrats invited Congressman Mike Doyle to speak on Thursday as part of their Trump Resistance Series. The basement classroom of Margaret Morrison was surprisingly crowded (possibly due to the free pizza) and latecomers were forced to sit on the ground.

Doyle represents Pittsburgh in the U.S. House of Representatives, and CMU College Democrats brought him in to talk about what he and other Congressman were doing to resist Trump. He especially emphasized what students in the city could do besides participating in marches.

He called President Donald Trump a “classic narcissist…who’s been focused on only one thing: Donald Trump. Not the United States of America. We didn’t elect a dictator and we certainly didn’t elect a crazy, unstable one.”

Doyle touched on a variety of subjects, from the building of the wall, which he claims will never actually be built, to the cutting of research funds, something that has the potential to effect a lot of CMU students. He said Trump’s administration wants to cut research funding, and the “best, brightest minds will be lost.”

Before taking questions from the crowd, he ended with these words: “Privacy, climate change, and the Affordable Care Act are under attack. We’ve got to act and keep people engaged, talk to people face-to-face. This is not going to be about turning America into a country where we hate each other because we don’t understand each other.”
