Why Wednesdays at Bucknell are better than any Thirsty Thursday

Flyson for the win

Bucknell life is full of original traditions and customs.  Of these many traditions, however, one stands out amongst the rest.  This revered ritual commences once every seven days and is celebrated with an overwhelming fervor.  The treasured tradition I speak of is, of course, Wednesday night.

Without fail, Bucknellians rally at this halfway marker of the week and together, join in on a night out like no other.  At every college, it is the norm for students to let loose and have fun on Friday and Saturday nights.  While Bucknell shares in these routinely celebrated nights, we have our very own  unique night.

What makes Wednesday nights out the best tradition?

It’s the perfect remedy for the midweek slump

We’ve all been there.  After drowning in Sunday’s workload, surviving Monday, and barely making it to Tuesday, all hope seems lost.  The weekend feels ions away.  Not with Wednesday nights out, though!

Wednesday nights are perfectly tailored to the Bucknell workweek, where class loads are usually heavier Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Thursdays for most, are the least demanding days, providing students a recovery period, so that by Friday everyone is revived.

The Wednesday night crowd is the best kind of crowd

It’s a special kind of person who dedicates themselves to partying on a Wednesday.  You have to commit yourself to finishing all your work beforehand and actively avoid the call of your bed tempting you to a “cozy night in.”

At Bucknell you can find engineering and philosophy majors alike any given Wednesday, honoring the tradition, making for a constantly new and exciting crowd.  Once you’re at a downtown house, whether it be blue stucco, purple pillars, or yellowwood (the options are always endless!) immersed in an exuberant crowd dancing together to the perfect song, though, there is no regretting your decision.

Wednesdays make Lewisburg seems less lonely

People love to point out the fact that Bucknell is in the middle of nowhere.  But hey, just because we’re in rural Pennsylvania doesn’t mean we have nothing to do.

Wednesday nights add to the vibrant Bucknell social life, and ensure that there is never a dull moment.

Themes are the best on Wednesdays

Greek life thrives on Wednesday Nights.  Frats and sororities host mixers with fun themes, which people love to dress up for.

The only thing better than actually being out in Lewisburg on a Wednesday is being out in a costume.

Nothing is more satisfying than Flyson on a Wednesday

No Wednesday night is complete without a trip to the Flyson, which respectfully honors the Wednesday night tradition and is open until 2am.

The satisfying taste of nacho tots at 1am in the middle of the week is unparalleled.

Friday is just ahead!

Your spectacular Wednesday night inevitably feels like it comes to an end much too soon.  You see a classmate in your Thursday morning class out and the two of you laugh about having to attend class the next day.  The thought is not overly daunting because you know the weekend is just two short days away.

While other schools may have “thirsty Thursdays,” all of who attend Bucknell know – there’s nothing better than a Wednesday night out in Lewisburg.
