Annual Comm Ave Charity Classic raises over $50,000 for ALS and Travis Roy Foundation
There’s nothing like bringing up the BU-BC hockey rivalry in the middle of July
Former BU and BC hockey players unleashed the BU-BC hockey rivalry and battled it out Friday night at the Comm Ave Charity Classic. This year’s game raised $66,500 for Compassionate Care ALS and The Travis Roy Foundation, bringing their three year total to $176,500.
Former BU players included Jack Eichel, Danny O’Regan, Charlie Coyle, Mike Moran and Matt Lane. Additionally, Captain Doyle Somerby and Charlie McAvoy from the 2016-17 year’s men’s hockey team participated in the game.
Our BU goalies were Matt O’Connor and Sean Maguire, who graduated in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Players for BC included Johnny Gaudreau, Colin White and Ryan Fitzgerald.
Thousands of fans filled Walter Brown Arena for the game. BU and BC’s pep bands played loud throughout the game. Current and former BU Dog Pound members lost their voices while screaming “Sieve!” at BC’s goalies Cory Schneider and John Muse.
BU won 8-6 (of course). Once the game finished, the players passed out their jerseys, sticks and gloves to fans. They signed people’s programs and jerseys after and took photos, too. Boys and girls wearing Eichel jerseys, BU jerseys (and for some reason BC jerseys, too) could not stop smiling as they got to meet their heroes.
