How to SLEIGH this holiday season

Are you studying? Listen to holiday music. Are you walking to class? Listen to holiday music.

Staying festive for the holiday season can be difficult when your professors are assigning  papers and projects you have no hope of  getting done. As soon as it turns December 1st (or the day after Thanksgiving if you’re real), might as well give up on raising your GPA because you’ve got holiday movies to watch and decorations to hang.

If you’re still struggling to transition into the holiday spirit, don’t fear because the Tab is here to help you jingle all the way.

Happy (festive) room equals happy (festive) life

While decorating your room may seem like simplest way to be festive, it’s a sure way to get you in the holiday spirit. I don’t know about you, but I spend the majority of  time in my room, so of course I want to feel like I’m constantly in a winter wonderland. Hang up some lights and slap some ornaments onto a fake tree that is definitely only one foot tall, because anything taller would not fit into the cubicle we call dorm rooms, and call it a day.

Dorm Christmas caroling

If Christmas caroling is one of your favorite past times, then why let college stop you? If Buddy the Elf says that, “the easiest way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear,” then it must be true. Just be warned, you might get written up for violating quiet hours.

BU Beach? More like BU Blizzard

We go to school in Boston, why are we kidding ourselves by calling that small space of grass a beach when we actually live in a snowy tundra. Conveniently, snow is very festive because who doesn’t love a white Christmas? Build yourself a snowman and you’ve got yourself a new friend and a fun festive story to tell.

ABC Family’s (Freeform’s) 25 Days of Christmas

Switch on the TV,  go to any channel, and chances are a holiday movie will be on. Even more likely, Elf will be on. Freeform’s entire month of December is devoted to Christmas movies, so put on any of their scheduled movies and it will instantly boost your mood. Because us here at the Tab care so greatly about your holiday movie watching habits, here is the schedule courtesy of Freeform:

All holiday activities

Ice Skating, gingerbread houses, holiday shopping and more. We live in Boston and there are so many activities at our fingertips. It doesn’t matter if you fall down every time you step on the ice or your gingerbread house always collapses. It’s even okay if you’re notorious for buying horrible gifts, because you’ll have fun doing any of these activities and it will definitely put you in the holiday mood.

Themed treats

Starbucks has an entire festive cup line devoted to the holidays. If you’re lucky enough to own an oven, bake yourself some holiday cookies, and if you’re not, go to the food store because there will be holiday treats galore.

Geo-filters can make anything festive

Opposed to popular belief, these are not any ordinary shoes. These are obviously my holiday shoes. Why else would I use the holiday geo-filter along with festive emojis? Seriously, using a geofilter can make any snapchat seem festive, so start snapping.

Michael Bublé’s Christmas album is of the utmost importance

Are you studying? Listen to holiday music. Are you walking to class? Listen to holiday music. Are you working out to burn off the calories from all those Christmas cookies? Listen to holiday music.  You should see a trend here. Holiday music is perfect for any occasion and can help you feel better about the exam you just failed because all Mariah Carey wants for Christmas is you.

Exchange some gifts

Buying gifts for others might be the most stressful part of the holidays. Nothing says the holidays like buying a gift for someone that you think they’ll love, but will probably end up hating and then secretly returning.

Don’t forget about Hanukkah

Hanukkah tends to get overshadowed by Christmas, so we have to show it some love because it’s also a wonderful holiday. I mean, Hanukkah gets eight days while Christmas only gets one, so who’s the real winner? So get ready to spin that dreidel and bake those latkes while listening to Adam Sandler’s Hanukkah Song (it’s a classic).

Whether you celebrate everything or nothing at all, December is one of the best times of the year (once finals are over). Spend all your time with friends and family while wishing for a happy and healthy 2017.
