Alcohol related arrests at BU have gone down

Good work everyone

Boston University released their Annual Security and Fire Safety Report with its findings for 2015. Overall, the numbers are looking a bit better than previous years.

There had been a massive jump in liquor-related arrests and referrals in 2014, by 11 and 303, respectively, but we are proud to say this year’s report shows the numbers have gone back down.

In 2015, there were 13 arrests and 790 referrals on campus. Alcohol-related arrests of Boston University students in public areas have also decreased, from 37 to 32.

Additionally, other crimes, such as forcible fondling, aggravated assault, stalking, and dating violence have also reduced slightly from 2014 to 2015. Forcible fondling decreased from seven to four, aggravated assault from five to four, stalking from 15 to 12, and dating violence from eight to five cases.

However, there were some crime statistics that unfortuntately increased from 2014 to 2015. These include rape, which jumped from five to nine cases; robbery, which went from one case to three; burglary, which increased from 18 to 19; and domestic violence, from zero to four cases.

Most crimes took place on campus, specifically in on-campus residential areas.

These numbers are not based on school year, but calendar year, so we will not see the 2016 findings until this time next year.

It’s the start of a new academic year, so we have a fresh slate. Try to stay out of too much trouble and let’s get these numbers down even further.
