What to do when you’re bored AF in Boston this summer

‘So… what do you want to do?’ ‘Idk’

Whether you’re taking summer classes or slaving away at an internship, you’ve still found the time to be bored out of your mind. So take a break and enjoy what Boston has to offer before it’s September and you’ve wasted your summer in Allston.

Swing at the Lawn on D

The Seaport District’s dynamic Lawn on D is all about free-ness with fun swings, concessions, and plenty of games. With a packed calendar of events/live music and a generous supply of games, you may find yourself staying all day (open 7am-10pm).

Visit the SoWa Open Market

Check out Boston’s original art and indie design market in the South End every Sunday. With food trucks, local vendors, and plenty of shopping, it may not be free but it’s free to explore.

Spend the day at Castle Island/Pleasure Bay

Surprisingly apart of the mainland, Castle Island is home to Fort Independence and the delicious food shack Sullivan’s. The grassy park surrounding the fort is one of Boston’s best kite-flying, picnicking spots. Right next-door is Pleasure Bay Beach, which is the perfect escape from the city with its clean sand and a calm lagoon.

Go to a Red Sox game

Did you know you could see the Red Sox play for as cheap as $9? You won’t be a student forever so might as well take advantage of this amazing deal. Just purchase your ticket here and don’t forget to bring your student ID to the game.

Visit the Museum of Fine Arts

Yes, I know you dragged yourself here for an assignment you waited until the last minute to do, but with approximately 450,000 objects in the collection, there’s always something new on view at the MFA.

Feel better about your lack of artistic ability at the Museum of Bad Art

Tucked away in the Somverville Theatre, this abundance of questionable art is both funny and strangely life affirming.

Star-gaze at the Coit Observatory at Boston University

Every weather-friendly Wednesday at 8:30pm, BU opens up the skies to the public for free at the Coit Observitory. The event is weather permitting since the telescopes are outside, so check its Twitter for exact times and status updates.

Drink for free at the Sam Adam’s Brewery (21+)

While this is not fun for all ages, those 21 and up can enjoy a free brewery tour and receive complimentary beer too.

See a Movie or Concert at the Hatch Shell

WZLX and Mix 104.1 have a summer’s worth of free concerts and fests at the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. There are outdoor movies every Friday night starting at dusk until August 31st. Check the schedule for more information.

Shoot some pool at Flat Top Johnny’s

Kendall Square’s forever cool billiards hall does free pool on select nights, and its Twitter/Facebook pages will tell you when.
