All classes in COM canceled today after fire on third floor

Three students are being treated for smoke inhalation

At least six fire trucks rushed to Warren Towers this morning around 8:50am.

Eyewitnesses saw a ladder extending to a room in the COM building. Sirens can be heard coming from both directions.

The BU alert system warned students to avoid the area due to an active fire at around 9am. BUPD and Boston Fire Department are on the scene.

The Boston Fire Department say the fire started in a WTBU recording studio on the third floor of the three-story building.

The room is described as soundproofed and heavily insulated and presents high gas levels.

At 9:36am Boston Fire reported the fire as “knocked down” and they are using fans to vent.

Three BU students along with one firefighter and one BU Police officer are being treated for smoke inhalation. None of the injuries are life-threatening and they have been transported to Beth Israel.

The T stopped inbound service around 9:10am and students were forced to get out at an earlier stop. The B line is also suspended from Packards to Kenmore.

Students should still avoid the area. BUPD warns students that they can’t enter 640 Comm Ave and they should go to Morse Auditorium.

All classes in COM today have been canceled.

BU advises students to follow the BU Alert System if they have any personal items in COM.

The Boston Fire Department Chief has estimated damage at $500,000.00 while investigators are still on scene to determine the cause and point of origin.

Some firemen can be seen on the roof.
