The state of Massachusetts just passed a new law restricting prescription drugs

Schools will be allowed to screen students verbally to try and crack down the number of drug abusers

On Monday, in a new attempt to reduce drug abuse, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed a bill into law which increases restrictions on some prescription drugs.

Part of the bill limits the amount of prescription pain medications a person can receive. Additionally, overdose patients will be required to have evaluations if they seek care at hospitals.

On top of it all, schools will be allowed to screen students verbally to try and crack down the number of drug abusers. With that said, parents are allowed to opt-out their child from the assessments.

The bill was unanimously passed by both the Massachusetts State Senate and House of Representatives. It is also the first law of its kind passed in any state so far.
