All the great things that happened at Brown in 2016

At least we have HBO?

2016 rocked the world with a series of shocking, sometimes unpalatable events.

Beloved singers such as Leonard Cohen and George Michaels passed away, and the presidential election yielded results that were unsavory to most Brunonians.

But now it’s 2017, and it’s important to remember that no matter how bitter a taste 2016 left in your mouth, it’s not all bad:

Gina Rodriguez came to Brown

At a troubling time for many minority students, Gina stood up and said, “I’m the one who is going to decide what affects me and what doesn’t. I’m the one who is going to decide whether I give up or not. And I decided not to.”

It was an empowering speech that gave students the hope they needed at the moment.

Tinashe took students on the ride of their lives as she popped into the crowd and extended her arms towards students.

Free HBO comes to Brown

Of the admitted class of 2020, 47 percent were students of color

In a year that brought a lot of unwelcome harassment for people of color, it was really nice to know that Brown would open its arms to its most diverse class yet.
