Brown officially has the second best professors in the US

Are we surprised?

Probably not to our surprise, Brown has the second best professors in the United States.

According to a ranking released by Niche, along with being the third best college for education in America and the eight most diverse college, Brown has placed second out of 1,606 colleges in the 2017 Colleges with the Best Professors in America ranking, pulling ahead of Dartmouth College, the University of Chicago, Bowdoin College, Yale, and Stanford.

This ranking was based on self-reported student reviews and statistics from the United States Department of Education and results showed that Brown University professors received a score of 4.5 out of 5 by students.

Other factors that contributed to Brown’s high ranking were its professor salary, student-faculty ratio, faculty awards, faculty diversity, faculty gender ratio, and research expenditure per student.

This ranking, however, should not come as a surprise. Five Brown University professors made The Princeton Review’s 2012 edition of “The Best 300 Professors”. This list includes Joseph Pucci, Stephanie Ravillon, Roberto Serrano, Daniel Stupar, and Barrett Hazeltine

According to The Critical Review, Professor Barrett has been consistently regarded by his students as an enthusiastic, interesting lecturer and is known for his infamous “Hazeltine Handshake,” a method he uses to encourage discussion in his larger classes.

Brown is also home to the recent co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics, Professor J. Michael Kostelitz, who became the second faculty member to do so in physics and the sixth Brown faculty Nobel Laureate overall. That being said, given Brown’s high student satisfaction and the reputation of its open curriculum, being considered to have some of the best professors in the nation seems quite fitting.
