Brad Bates apologizes for winless football and basketball season

Even SportsCenter talked about it

There were a lot of high hopes this year for BC football and mens basketball team. There is no doubt that the players put their best foot forward, however, there is not much to show for it.

Both teams couldn’t pull a win in their conference games. It was so shocking that even Sports Center mentioned it.

BC’s Head Athletic Director, Brad Bates, sent an unexpected but understandable email to BC’s football and mens basketball supporters.

In the email, Brad said: “Ultimately, our University mission is ‘Ever to Excel’ and winning is a significant measure of excellence. I believe winning is important because it is developmentally meaningful, and nobody is more disappointed in the record of these two highly visible sports than our coaches and administration.

“We feel most for the student-athletes on these teams whose tireless efforts and dedication were not rewarded in the win-loss column.

“It’s easy to cast blame, but the harder, more productive course of action is to acknowledge our failures and learn from them.”

Yet, this setback came at a pretty good time. As mentioned in the email, BC announced that they are investing 200 million dollars to improve their Athletic Facilities. As Henry Hartman said, “Success always happens when preparation meets opportunity.” Hopefully now with better quality equipment and training, both teams can prepare themselves for a major comeback.

Brad added: “There are tremendous success stories unfolding at this moment, from our women’s ice hockey team’s undefeated season, our men’s ice hockey team’s postseason possibilities and a terrific start for some of our spring sports.”

So let’s not forget how amazing our other sports teams are such as Mens Ice Hockey who were 25-5-5, Beanpot champions and are currently competing in the Hockeyeast quarterfinals.  As well as the Women’s Ice Hockey who were undefeated this season, won the Hockeyeast tournament and are now battling for the NCAA championship and Baseball who are currently 11-2.

After all, it could be worse and we could be BU and have no football team.
