Elizabeth and Joe withdraw from UGBC presidential elections

They are endorsing two students not currently in the race

Joe McCarthy and Elizabeth Foley have withdrawn as UGBC presidential candidates, citing personal reasons for their decision.

The campaign reached out with the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we, Elizabeth Foley and Joseph McCarthy, are withdrawing our candidacy from the upcoming UGBC elections.  Due to unforeseen personal matters, we have decided it unfair to ourselves, and those on our team, to continue with our campaign.

“Upon our removal from candidacy, we support the nominations of other campaign teams to ensure a competitive election, as there is only one team with the genuine intention of holding office. An election without diverse and representative candidates is not an election at all; it is an injustice to the student body and the candidates.

“We encourage students and other candidates to reach out to the Elections Committee to reconsider their decision and allow these ideas to be represented in the upcoming election.  The Elections Committee works tirelessly and valiantly to serve the student body and we cannot thank them enough for the effort that they put forth.

“We would like to announce our support of Nikita Patel and Joseph Arquillo, two invaluable members of our campaign team, joining these elections. Each candidate is qualified to run, Nikita having previously received the 250 signatures required for nomination on another party ticket, and Joseph having attended all necessary meetings and contributing to the signatures of our own campaign, of which we received well over 250.

“It is with this in mind that we strongly hope that the Election Committee continue to give all of their energy to serve students and allow these two very qualified candidates to seek office.  Although we are no longer able to continue with this election, we hope that our ideas can.

“Please know that this is not a decision that we took lightly, and was indeed a very difficult one for us.

“Thank you, Boston College for all of the wonderful support throughout this process, we are so grateful.”
