BC accuses Chipotle at Cleveland Circle of making students sick

Not just finals are making us vom

In an university-wide email today, BC Health Services confirmed that many students are suffering from gastrointestinal issues (read: vomiting and diarrhea) after eating Chipotle in Cleveland Circle.

And we thought there could be nothing worse than Mac.

It’s been reported eight basketball players have confirmed cases of E.coli. Yet Matt Lynch, Associate Director for Athletics Communications, replied in an email with the official statement from BC Public Affairs.

The FDA has been tracking the most recent outbreak of E.coli linked to Chipotle, and as of December 4th, 52 infected people could be traced to nine states.

As of the most recent update, there had been no reported incidences of e.coli by residents of Massachusetts. Health Services at BC has informed the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and they are “working to determine if there is a link to the ongoing national outbreak of e-coli.”

A spokesperson for Chipotle said: “I’m looking into this. We have not heard anything about it, and it was not part of an update posted by CDC on Friday.”

One junior, who ate at Chipotle on Saturday, said: “I started to feel really nauseous and sick around 10:15 last night and sprinted home from O’Neill.  I’ve been constantly sick since then, about every hour my mouth and my butt betray me back to back.

“I have been in the infirmary since the early morning where I have continued to be sick.  My nausea has finally gone away but I am still making frequent trips to the bathroom.

“I haven’t been able to eat anything all day.”

His roommate, also a junior who ate with him on Saturday, said: “I ate there Saturday night with five other friends, three of which are all sick right now. Not the type of stress anyone needs during finals!”

A junior football player, who ate at Chipotle last night, added: “All I can say is I’m scared.”

Update

Around 6 pm on Monday evening, a spokesperson for Chipotle said: “The safety and well being of our customers is always our highest priority, so our restaurant at Cleveland Circle in Boston is temporarily closed while we work with local health officials to investigate a number of illnesses among Boston College students.

We do not have any evidence to suggest that this incident is related to the previous E. coli incident. There are no confirmed cases of E. coli connected to Chipotle in Massachusetts.”
