Sophomore running back Jon Hillman sidelined despite heroism

‘The surplus of injuries definitely impacted our performance this season’

The first by-week of the season leaves campus quiet and calm for the weekend.

As the Eagles are left with some time off,  The Tab was able to sat down with our very last player for this series: Jon Hillman.

The sophomore Communication major has been creating a name for himself since the beginning of his freshman year. Last year, Jon played in all 13 games with seven starts.

Jon helped secure victory at Alumni at the Northern Illinois game by scoring a touchdown, leading BC with 119 yards. However, the victory over Northern Illinois was season-ending for Hillman, who was injured during the game, breaking his foot.

The running back discussed his how it feels to be a starter and his favorite college moment, and reflects on the past season.

What are your thoughts on the season?

I think that it is has been a pretty tough season. As far as us being a young team, I think we are doing a good job of playing together. We have really good camaraderie. There is some stuff we have to improve on. The surplus of injuries definitely impacted our performance this season.

What has been your favorite moment in your college career so far?

Probably the USC game. It was kind of like my coming out party. I had a good game, it was my first start and ironically that was my favorite college team, so it was kind of big deal to play against them and beat them.

What kinds of adjustments have you guys made to prepare you guys for the future?

We’ve just been working on our game plan, working on the basics. We’ve been trying to win from within and motivate each other. Just keeping the vibes positive so we can play a great game. A lot of guys had things get in their head and I think the main goal is to stay positive, improve,  and keep the ball rolling.

Were there any games you were excited to play?

Not really to be honest. I am really excited for all games. I love to play, I love to practice, and I love football. Every game is important to me. I don’t really have any games flagged or circled.

How does it feel to be a starter?

It feels good. I wouldn’t say it’s a lot of pressure, but it is a lot of motivation knowing that you have a target on your back and knowing that any day your spot will be taken. It’s kind of good. It’s a rush that I like.
