Auburn Jewish community: ‘Richard Spencer’s appearance makes us feel unsafe and marginalized’

The white supremacist Richard Spencer is set to give a talk at Auburn next week

The Jewish community at Auburn has spoken out against alt-right leaderĀ Richard Spencer‘s event next week.

Lily Buder, the president for Hillel at Auburn, told The Tab that Jewish students deserve to feel safe and welcome on campus.

“We hope that the university and the community condemn this kind of hate being promoted on campus,” she said.

Richard Spencer, a white supremacist who “rails against Jews” in his speeches, is set to give a talk at Auburn next week.

Read Lily’sĀ statement in full below:

“The recent events here have been highly offensive to the Jewish community at Auburn, this paired with the appearance of Richard Spencer here next week only makes us feel more unsafe and marginalized. The recent anti-Semitic flyers that have been posted around our campus in the recent days are extremely offensive and divisive, and the upcoming appearance of someone with views such as his only adds insult to injury. We hope that the university and the community condemn this kind of hate being promoted on campus. Us Jewish students are part of the Auburn family and deserve to feel safe and welcome.”

We have contacted the university for comment and will update when we hear back.
