It’s On Us is now on ASU’s campus to help make it safer

Sexual assault is much too common and it is up to us to make a change

I am a person who strongly believes in doing what you can to make a difference in the world, and I constantly try to become a part of new organizations that work to better this society.

Due to this mindset, I applied for and became the campus organizer for It's On Us, an initiative started by President Obama during his presidency three years ago to prevent sexual assault on college campuses. Sexual assault is much too common, especially at the collegiate level, and it is up to us to make a change.

Sexual assault is a horrifying crime, and it is even worse because our society today makes it very hard for victims to come forward with their experiences. With victim-blaming so common, too many people who have been assaulted are scared to reach out for help. It is time we change this, but more so than that, it is time we end sexual assault.

College is supposed to be a time where people can happily and safely get an education and to ensure this, we must prevent sexual assault. Be sure to spread awareness, get involved and put in your little part. Together, we can all make a difference.

As this semester comes to a close, I look forward to working even harder next semester with my team and with my school to prevent sexual assault on this amazing campus that so many of us call home. I believe it is important to work together if we want to make progress, so if you have ideas for how to make our campus safer, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
