Dexter, ME is an unforgettable place to grow up

Everyone knows Lake Wassookeag is perfect in every season

Whether you’ve spent your whole life in Dexter, you moved there a couple years prior, or you’ve moved away, there are a few things you definitely understand.

As we all know Dexter hasn’t seen much change in the last twenty years besides a couple of different shops and the closing of the Dexter Cafe – it was a serious tragedy for breakfast lovers across the town.

When we got a Dunkin’ Donuts and everyone freaked out

It quickly became the in place to go, especially with all of its deals. Like on Thursday, when you can get any sized tea for a dollar. That said, we all miss ]when they had those delicious Baskin Robbin’s flavored coffees/lattes.

RIP butter pecan, you are dearly missed.

Reny’s, a Maine adventure

Reny’s has just about anything you could imagine. Ask anyone in Maine about the jingle, and they can sing it. Whether you need a new pair of jeans, a board game, homeware, snacks, a Spider-man mask, or souvenirs, Reny’s has got you covered.

It’s also the only store in Dexter so in a way we kind of have to love it, huh?

Going into Bud’s Shop ‘n Save and seeing everyone you’ve ever known

Bud’s is not for those trying to get in and out of the store. We all think we’re just going to run in for that one item, and run out, but it never happens.

Face it, you’re always going to run into someone you know. Whether it be a teacher, family member, or old friend, you will stop, and you will chat. And we don’t use Redbox, Bud’s has plenty of movie rentals.

Does anyone else remember that time they had these beautiful flowers planted outside?

 Fall aka hunting season

Fall in Dexter is beautiful. Everyone heads over to Corinna or Treeworgy’s to pick their apples. The corn maze in Corinna is also a great place to hit up, since it also sells pumpkins. All of the leaves change color and the out-ah-statahs (out-of-staters for those of you who don’t know) come out to go leaf watching. My mom refers to them as leaf peepers.

Oh, and we always have to plan our Halloween costumes around winter coats, since it’s almost always below freezing. And who could forget about deer season, when everyone heads to their second home, their tree stand.

Every girl you know wears Bean Boots

Everyone knows that as soon as the temperatures drop North Face jackets, the flannels, and the Bean Boots come out. LL Bean is everything to us Mainers. Beans is the place where we go when we need something that’s going to last.

Going to the flagship store is like a rite of passage for any Mainer, and we all own at least one thing from Beans.

Heading out to Lake Wassookeag year round

Everyone has a camp on Wassookeag, or knows someone who does. We all enjoy going down there during the summer to fish, tube, or swim. When winter rolls around the fun doesn’t stop.

The ice is always speckled with little shacks, some of which remain there until the tail end of April.

Hiking Borestone in the summer

Everyone goes and hikes Borestone during the summer. Even if you don’t enjoy hiking one of your friends does, and they forced you to go.

If you didn’t then you experienced some serious FOMO when you started seeing your friends’ Instragram posts.

We all do winter sports because winters are so dang long

Since winter takes up the majority of our year, or at least seems to, we all take part in winter sports. There’s skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, sledding, ice hockey, or even ice fishing.

You name it, we’ve probably tried it. Of course we have to go over to Moose mountain or Sugarloaf in order to ski, but we deal.

Dexter’s poorly plowed roads

Not to point any fingers, but seriously. Heading into town from North Dexter there is always a literal line that shows where the state has stopped plowing, and Dexter has started.

The street is always covered with snow and it’s ridiculous. Guys, please get it together.

 The people

Some of us have a full set of teeth and some of us don’t. But we all know what’s important, making sure someone takes home the roadkill. Let’s face it, we’d probably be considered hicks in any other part of the world. and that’s why we live here.

To be completely honest, we wouldn’t want it any other way.
