How to clean the bathroom because your parents are coming to visit & they can’t see the nastiness

Get ready to scrub

college student

Parents' weekend is approaching and you just realized you haven't cleaned your bathroom since move-in day. No one wants to hear the horrified gasps of their mothers stepping into the grossest bathroom known to man. With a little scrub down, you'll be positively proud to show your parents just how great your dorm or apartment is. Here's how to clean a bathroom from top to bottom.

What to buy

Start with getting the right supplies. You'll need a all-surface cleaner, toliet cleaner, toliet brush, sponges, paper towels and a bleach spray. There are some all-surface cleaners that have bleach in them if you're on a budget. If you're a major germiphobe or it's been a while since your bathroom has gotten a throrough cleaning, we'd invest in some rubber gloves. You're going to have to clean the floor too so a vacuum, mop and or Swiffer isn't a bad idea either.

Move everything

Before you even turn your groovy cleaning playlist on, you've got to get everything out of the bathroom. Take all the shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushers, and anything on a bathroom surface out of the room.

Where to start

First up is the shower. Once that's clean, do the sink and toliet and finish with the floor. The idea is you work your way from the corners of the room towards the door so you're basically cleaning as you're leaving the room.

How to clean the shower

Work your way from the top to the bottom. That way all the gross stuff will be washed down the drain. Spray the side of the shower that's furtherst away from the showerhead starting at the top. Most bleach sprays will recommend letting it sit for about two minutes before wiping down the surface with a sponge. Do the same thing with each side of the shower. Spray down the tub or floor from outside the shower then wipe it down. Finally, turn on the shower to wash all the bleach down the drain. Make sure you move the showerhead around a bit to reach as much of the sides as you can.

How to clean the toilet

This would be the time to put on those rubber gloves if you have them. Lift up the toliet seat and cover. Get your toliet bowl cleaner out. Squeeze the cleaner around the inner rim of the toliet bowl and scrub the inside with the toliet brush. Make sure to get under the water line as well as around the rim. Close the toliet cover and while your waiting, spray down the outside of the bowl. Wipe the cleaner away with a paper towel. When the allotted amount of time has passed, flush the toliet and the inside should be pearly white.

How to clean the sink

Spray your all-purpose cleaner or bleach cleaner all over the sink. Wait a few minutes and then wipe it away with a paper towel. If there's streaks on your faucet from the cleaner, lightly wet a paper towel with warm water and wipe it over the surface so it's nice and shiny.

How to clean the floor

First, vacuum the floor for hair and towel pieces. Once that's done, then you can Swiffer or use a mop. If you go the old-fashioned route and mop, fill up a bucket with warm water and add-in soap. Wash the floor, empty the bucket and fill it water to rinse the floor. After you've rinsed, you can apply the hardcore bathroom floor cleaner. Now you've got scrub the floor with a sponge and if you're really dedicated use an old toothbrush inbetween the tiles.

Finally, you'll have to rinse the floor again to get rid of any residue from the cleaning products, which can be bad for your skin. Give everything time to dry before putting all your stuff back. Once it's all good, return your toiletries to where it was and you're done. You made it.
