This Instagram from Kylie Jenner is very strange, especially after that Kendall Pepsi controversy…

Is this a response to the drama?

Executives of the Kardashian-Jenner media empire are no strangers to controversy (kontroversy) and this week has been a doooozy.

To bring you up to speed, Kendall Jenner starred in a now-pulled Pepsi ad that seemed to co-opt the Black Lives Matter movement for the sake of selling soda. Kendall isn't just a model or actress, though — she's a celebrity endorser, and as such she had to sign off on the concept. It's not totally her fault, but she's not totally innocent either, y'know?

Her younger sister Kylie is also a lightning rod for drama and backlash, frequently accused of appropriating Black culture through her clothes, style, and mannerisms. Today, though, must be some kind of solstice because the controversy just seemed to intersect.

About 10 minutes ago, Kylie posted this picture with no caption:

Kylie's been dragged for wearing cornrows, a traditionally Black hairstyle, for years now. Now that Kendall's under fire for taking over a Black-centric movement, the timing of this post seems suspect.

Is this a response to the backlash, kind of the vein of Selena Gomez's infamous "Sari, not sari" Instagram? None of the Kardashian-Jenner family members have spoken out about the Pepsi debacle, neither directly nor via rep. But a picture seems to speak a thousand words.

We're reached out to Kylie's reps for comment.
