‘Rape is inevitable may as well enjoy it’: Aggie Ring plaza vandalised with sexual assualt slur

It was pointing at the Clayton Williams Memorial Centre

Just a few days before spring Aggie ring day, Aggie ring plaza has been vandalised with a worrying message.

The black graffiti written over night says: “Rape is inevitable may as well enjoy it – Clayton Williams” with two arrows pointing towards the Clayton Williams Jr Memorial Centre.

According to KBTX, the graffiti references a comment made by the former Republican nominee for the Governor of Texas during his 1990 campaign saying rape is like the weather, “if it’s inevitable, just relax and enjoy it.”

Students and alumni have reacted with disgust and upset on social media:

Texas A&M police are currently investigating the scene and looking at surveillance video.

Williams, who unsuccessfully ran for the Governor of Texas, graduated from A&M in 1954 with a degree in animal husbandry.
