It’s been a year in which many of us, activism background or not, have taken to the streets to protest the election of Donald Trump, continued threats to our right to choose, rape culture, institutionalized racism and a plethora of other causes. The best thing about marching — aside from making your voice heard alongside hundreds or thousands or hundreds of thousands of like-minded individuals — are the artistic, incisive, often funny signs that people bring to aid in getting the message across. Society is so used to the idea of victimizing rape victims that they don't even realize it. They say things like "but her dress was too short, she was probably asking for it" etc but in fact NOBODY asks to be raped, whether a female is wearing a full on onesie or absolutely nothing to be covered. It NEVER gives anybody the right to violate her personal space, by taking away her dignity. It doesn't give anybody the right to touch her body. It doesn't give anybody the right to make her feel powerless, or do as they please. Nobody asks for these things! Instead of teaching females to watch how they carry themselves or even how they decide to dress on a specific day, teach society that rape is simply NOT okay! Under no circumstances and that it does not only happen to females. Men get raped too. Kids get raped too. So are you still gonna say that they were showing their tits?
