The weirdest internet beauty trends of 2016

All glitter everything… and we do mean everything

2016 has been a notoriously weird year and the beauty trends — particularly those born on the internet — have proven to be no different. From 100 layer challenges to ear art, a few of our favorites.

Armpits, eyebrows, lips, beards, roots… If it’s hairy, it can be glittered.

Bubble nails

Also known as “polish mountains,” you spend hours applying one coat of every nail polish you own and then… post it on the Internet? This partially inspired the infamous Jenna Marbles 100 layers of everything challenge, which was one of the only good things to come out of 2016.

Crazy contouring

Kim K has led the contour game for years, but this year it was taken too far. It started off innocently with nose contouring, then got a little out of hand once it moved to boobs, and suddenly people were contouring their legs and ears. If that wasn’t bad enough, people started drawing intricate designs with their contour and highlight like clowns, scary dolls, or sugar skulls that blend out into a perfectly made face. Creepy.

I thought we left this behind in middle school with the lip gloss rings.

Using random objects to contour your face

Whether it’s a wine bottle, a shovel, or a shoe, anything with a straight line can be used to contour your face.

Donald Trump

I believe they took the phrase “walk a mile in someone else’s toupee” too literally.

Ear makeup

Accent lobes were spotted at NYFW as the summer’s most up and coming trend, according to Marie Claire.

Penis eyeliner

Yeah, 2016 is officially the weirdest beauty year ever.
