This girl wrote an empowering song about the election everyone needs to hear

She’s approached politics with peaceful music

AJ Merjan, an 18-year-old freshman at Berklee College of Music, took activism into her own hands this week when she decided to write a song about her feelings towards this election. A talented musician, she composed a song as a peaceful way for people to hear her political voice.

In her song, she discusses how she felt during the election and after the results were announced. Shocked by Hillary’s loss, she sings about waking up in a world she didn’t recognize — one where hate has become the answer.

“Now we’re gonna have to wake up each morning in a country that’s lost its pride,” she sings.

She focuses on love, peace and how this nation can overcome its lack of peace and love by rising up to stand for what’s important. She calls for listeners to stand up for the freedom to love, and regain the sympathy and peace that were absent in Trump’s election.

“Oh I won’t no I won’t give up love. We gotta rise up, we gotta rise up.”

AJ said she was having a hard time dealing with her emotions of shock and sadness.

“Writing songs really helps me process my feelings and put it into something constructive. It’s like therapy to me when I sit at the piano and write about whatever I am thinking about/feeling,” she told babe.

She says the key to getting political opinions heard is to protest peacefully, and she has nothing but respect for those who are peacefully exercising their right to protest.

“I think that anything you do in the name of love and peace is worthy. For me, this just happens to be music.

“I feel like music is so special because of it’s ability to bring people together on a spiritual level.”

Though many of those who’ve heard her new song don’t agree with her political views, the opposition has even said that they love her song and what she stands for.

“These comments are the biggest compliment to me because it just shows how music has the ability to bring everyone together no matter what your political affiliations are.

“I did not write that song for Hilary supporters and Democrats; I wrote it in hopes that it could bring a smile to someone’s face or bring someone a little hope, no matter who they voted for.”

The world needs more people like AJ.

Woke up this morning to a world I didnt recognize
Tell me, how can I look you in the eyes?
How did we get here how did we become so blind?
Now it’s time to explain to our children why

What’s gonna happen to our planet?
How bout the freedom to love?
What ever happened to the god who claimed he was watching over us?
When did hate become the answer?
Where did we leave our sympathy, please tell me

Now we’re gonna have to wake up each morning in a country that’s lost its pride
Now it’s time to wake up and realize

What’s gonna happen to our planet?
How bout the freedom to love?
What ever happened to the god who claimed he was watching over us?
When did hate become the answer?
Where did we leave our sympathy please tell me

Oh I won’t no I won’t give up love
We gotta rise up we gotta rise up x2

What’s gonna happen to our planet?
How bout the freedom to love?
What ever happened to the god who claimed he was watching over us?
When did hate become the answer?
Where did we leave our sympathy please tell me lyrics
