All of the things in and out of NYC that you can use your student ID for

They don’t have to know you’re 22

Even though you’re home for the summer, you can still take advantage of being a student in and around New York City by using your student ID at a variety of shops, theaters, and restaurants.

Don’t think that being a broke college student means you can’t afford a trip to the Big Apple with friends, just bring your ID and check out some of the things I’ve mentioned below.

J. Crew, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Loft, Madewell

It’s inevitable that you will need business casual outfits in college, regardless of your major. At some point, you will have an important interview or presentation and you will need to look nice, but shopping for these clothes can be expensive.

Stop into any of these stores and save 15% on all fully priced items, then go out and kill it in your new clothes.

B&H Photo Video

For any film or photo enthusiasts, or those who just want to save all their memories from college, B&H EDU Advantage for students offers thousands of discounts on imaging and audio products.

24 Hour Fitness

For that totally random 2 AM exercise bout, or just avoiding the freshman 15, get special pricing when you sign up with your student ID at any 24 hour fitness.

4th Street Food Co-op

When you’re sick of dining hall food, Domino’s Pizza, and Ramen Noodles, this non-profit farmer’s market, of sorts, offers students 3% off organic, locally, grown, vegetarian, high quality foods.

Have a few extra minutes? You get an even bigger discount for helping out this little not for profit.

Goodwill

When the broke college student stereotype is real, and you have $5 in your bank account, stop in at any Goodwill NYC shop Monday through Friday to get a 10% discount with your student ID.

Steve Madden

Shoes glorious shoes! Feed your shoe obsession with 10% during the month of August – just don’t forget to show your ID.

The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal

Reading the paper might not be so popular anymore, but it’s always good to know what’s going on in the world. That’s why aspiring journalists and those who simply want to be well informed can get the NY Times for 99 cents daily for the first month of subscription, and 50% off the normal rate after that.

The Wall Street Journal also offers 75% off regular subscription for students. Plus, you can have it delivered to your laptop, phone, or just read it in print.

Knicks Games

Save 50% on select game tickets – just make sure you buy them at the Madison Square Garden Box office.

Hard Rock Cafe

It’s always fun to play tourist sometimes. Flash your student ID at any Hard Rock Cafe worldwide and get an exclusive discounted menu for students.

Chick Fil-A

It just started opening locations in NYC, but its chicken is already taking the city by storm. If you’re patient enough to wait on the 1 hour line, they’ll reward you with a free drink with your meal.

Broadway shows

Instead of waiting in Times Square for 2 hours, to possibly get super cheap, but super crappy seats to shows, go directly to the box office with your student ID and receive steeply discounted same day show tickets for select shows.

Includes: Jersey Boys, Aladdin, The Book of Mormon, Chicago, Kinky Boots, and more.

AMC Theaters

The new Avengers movie comes out, but you’re not down for $20 tickets and $8 popcorn. You can get discounted tickets all day Thursday at AMC – sounds like a pretty nice way to kick off the weekend.

Madame Tussauds

One of the coolest wax museums in the world that, unfortunately, has a ridiculous price tag.

Stop in any time of year and get $3 off admission with your student ID.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

The perfect place to go on a nice spring day. Whether on a date or with friends, or just by yourself, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens is $6 every day for students.

Actually Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh, but you get the idea.

East Yoga

When you need to take a serious study break and relax your muscles, show your student ID and get a 10 class card for $100, or a 5 class card for $50.

Artist and Craftsman Supply

For the more serious artists, save 10% on high quality art supplies with your student ID or syllabus.

Blick Art Materials

You thought DIY decorating for your dorm room would be cute and relatively cheap, until you realize all of the supplies you need. Stop into Blick and save 10% on supplies all year round.

Next time you think you can’t afford NYC, check this out and think again. Some places won’t advertise that they offer a discount, or ask if you’re a student. But, don’t be afraid to ask. After all, when you’re broke, every penny counts.
